SportsMyriad Sochi crew: Emily Haydel

My name is Emily Haydel. I’m originally from Atlanta, GA, but I’m currently a freshman at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor looking to major in Sports Management and minor in Spanish. I currently work with the school’s television station, WOLV-TV on various sports shows and the Michigan chapter for the Association of Women in Sports Media. I am no doubt in love with the school, but the tundra that is this state six months out of the year is no comparison to the city that shuts down after two inches of snow.  I love Beyoncé, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber(may have just lost my credibility with those two), and everything else that is mainstream to be honest. I love sports, especially football(New Orleans Saints) and soccer. My ultimate dream is to be a sports broadcaster, whether it be sideline reporter, analyst, or play-by-play caller, and help women gain more respect in the sports and sports media world.

I come from a very close knit, but large, Catholic family with two loving, yet sometimes quirky parents, an aggravating, yet(as much as I hate to say) funny little teenage brother, and 3 of the cutest dogs in the world. My father’s side of my family comes from New Orleans, with my grandfather and my late grandmother, who my name comes from; furthermore, there are my aunts, uncles, and plethora of little cousins. My great-grandmother on that side of the family is the world-renowned chef, Leah Chase. On my mothers side, there are my two wonderful grandparents who both reside in Atlanta. My grandmother, Billye Aaron, was the first Black woman to co-host on a daily show in the southeast, and my grandfather, Hank Aaron, is one of the greatest legends of baseball. With this great opportunity to write here for Beau Dure, I hope that this can be a great step towards achieving my dream, and I hope you all enjoy the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics!
