Suppose you like more than one sport. Suppose the sports you like best are the ones that don’t get big play on in the big papers, the big sites or the big blogs.
SportsMyriad will have it covered. Is it a soccer blog? An MMA blog? An Olympic sports blog? A chess blog? Yes, though it’ll probably have more soccer than chess.
It’s not that the dominant American sports of football, baseball, basketball, hockey (depending on who’s asking), golf and auto racing aren’t worth covering. We’ll have the occasional note on those sports as well.
But the intent here is to flip the sports page inside-out. The priorities are the sports that don’t get much play outside of those really intense niche blogs where you’re likely to get laughed out of the comments section if you don’t already devote your life to one sport.
So if you’re a soccer fan who has an interest in the Olympics or maybe an MMA fan who wants to know the very basics of rugby, this is a good place for you. It’s a bit like “Wide World of Sports” without the unforgettable theme music. (I did major in music — maybe I can come up with something.)
The writer is Beau Dure, longtime USA TODAY writer/online editor in soccer, MMA and Olympic sports. I’m free-lancing now, with more time to chase down anything interesting you may not have seen on SportsCenter.
Enjoy, tell your friends and tell me what you think.
